MIDNIGHT CHALKER
On the corner of Stafford & Main in Richmond, VA sits a purple cajun bar with a chalkboard ceiling: Lady N’awlins. Sometime in 2016 I climbed onto the bar, a piece of chalk in hand, and drew a Squirtle. Next time, Bulbasaur. Then Charmander. Majora’s Mask. Mr. Hankey. A Santa stormtrooper… I returned again and again over the next six years until it was covered in my favorite things – a love letter to my favorite bar. Behind that red door are some of my fondest memories of Richmond, with friends who became family.
“If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is because everything would be what it isn't. And contrariwise, what it is, it wouldn't be, and what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?
